Bostitch nail gun hammer not returning. 01-22-2021, 09:37 AM. The hammer (silver part that shoots back and forth) in my nail gun does not seem to be returning properly so it is not firing any nails. If I fire, hold the trigger for 2 seconds, and let go it returns further. However, if I just fire and immediately let go, it only returns halfway.
